The LNG India Summit 2026 will convene stakeholders from the natural gas, LNG, energy and industrial sectors. Themed as "Commemorating a Decade of Impact, Innovation and Energy Transition," the 10th edition comes as India works to expand the role of natural gas while balancing affordability, supply security and price stability.
India’s LNG market is entering a significant phase of expansion as rising demand from the fertiliser, city gas distribution (CGD), power, industrial and refining sectors strengthens the role of natural gas in the country’s evolving energy mix. According to S&P Global, India imported approximately 25.5 million tonnes of LNG in 2025, with Petronet LNG projecting imports could rise to around 28–29 million tonnes in 2026, reflecting the growing requirement for gas across key consuming sectors. The dynamics of India’s LNG market have shifted significantly in 2026, reinforcing the importance of supply diversification, flexible procurement and energy security.
Disruptions to LNG flows through the Strait of Hormuz and interruptions to supplies from key Middle Eastern suppliers have accelerated a rebalancing of India’s LNG import basket. According to recent news, during May–July 2026, the United States emerged as India’s largest LNG supplier, followed by Nigeria, Oman and Angola, as Indian buyers successfully redirected cargoes from alternative supply sources. India's LNG story is no longer just about increasing imports—it is increasingly about diversification, resilience, flexibility and securing competitively priced LNG.
The inaugural session, "India's Future Gas Strategy: Growth to Resilience to Sustainability," will feature addresses by Dr AK Balyan, Chairman and Director, Carmine Energy Pte., on the roadmap from 6% to 15%; Mr Sunjoy Joshi, Chairman, Observer Research Foundation, on energy security amid geopolitical uncertainty; and Mr A.K. Tiwari, Member, Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board, on risk mitigation in LNG supply.
The sessions planned include topics of discussion like:
· India's Future Gas Strategy: Growth to Resilience to Sustainability
· Energy pathways for Viksit Bharat 2047: Lessons from the past, Vision for the future
· Spotlight on Canada emerging as a global LNG supply market
· Energy Security in a Volatile World: Diversifying LNG Supply Routes & Long-Term Contracts
· The Backbone of India's Gas Economy: Integrating Terminals, Pipelines, and Last-Mile Connectivity
· Shaping the Next Decade of LNG: Global Market Transformation, Growth & Geopolitical Dynamics
· LNG for Heavy Duty Vehicle Mobility-Creating Infrastructure for clean transportation
And several other topics will be discussed by industry experts across the two days along with the awards ceremony.
Mr Raj Manek, Executive Director & Board Member, Messe Frankfurt Asia Holdings Ltd, expressed: "Over the past decade, the LNG India Summit has become a place where the industry takes stock and looks ahead. This year, with supply routes shifting and buyers widening their sources, energy security, flexible procurement and affordability carry added weight. We hope this edition offers a constructive space for those conversations and supports the collaboration the sector will need ad India works towards a larger role for natural gas.”
The LNG India Summit 2026, scheduled for 14–15 October 2026, brings together leading energy companies, policymakers and industry experts to discuss the role of LNG and natural gas in achieving Viksit Bharat 2047. Key companies contributing to the discussions include GAIL, Indian Oil Corporation (IOCL), Petronet LNG, ONGC, HPCL, HPCL LNG, Adani Total Gas, Maharashtra Natural Gas, Indian Gas Exchange, Shell Energy India, ExxonMobil, NTPC, Jindal Steel, National Fertilisers, Ashok Leyland, ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India and THINK Gas.
The summit will focus on strengthening India’s LNG supply security through diversified sourcing and long-term contracts, while also examining the development of terminals, pipelines, city gas distribution and last-mile connectivity. Discussions on LNG for heavy mobility will explore its potential as a cleaner transport fuel, while the industrial decarbonisation panel will assess how LNG can help sectors such as steel, fertilisers, refining and power reduce emissions. Overall, the summit aims to shape a resilient, competitive and sustainable Indian gas ecosystem, aligned with India’s long-term energy and decarbonisation goals.
The anniversary edition will also mark the summit's journey with a commemorative film and the release of a report on ten years of LNG growth in India. The LNG India Awards, a special 10th-year edition, will recognise achievements across the industry, with a jury chaired by Shri B.K. Chaturvedi, former Cabinet Secretary, Government of India, and former Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas. The valedictory session will present the knowledge partner's key recommendations and the "LNG India 2030 Resilience Agenda" for adoption.
The summit is organised by Messe Frankfurt Trade Fairs India in collaboration with knowledge partner CRISIL Intelligence by S&P Global. It is also supported by GAIL as sustainability partner, Indian Gas Exchange (IGX) as exchange partner, and the All-India Association of Industries, Natural Gas Society and Association of CGD Entities as partner associations.
