In an effort to make the transport sector more sustainable, India is developing its bioenergy resources to provide affordable energy while reducing fossil fuel imports, improving air quality, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Modern bioenergy today accounts for 13% of India’s total final energy consumption and is expected to grow by up to 45% between 2023 and 2030. Further, the advances in green hydrogen will add another layer of sustainability.
The inauguration ceremony saw the presence of distinguished dignitaries from government and private sectors including:
- H.E. Mr. Kenneth Félix Haczynski da Nóbrega, Ambassador, Embassy of Brazil, New Delhi
- Dr Alok Sharma, Director – Research & Development, Indian Oil Corporation Ltd
- Mr Ashim Sharma, Senior Partner & Group Head - Business Performance Improvement Consulting, Nomura Research Institute
- Dr Harender Singh Bisht, Director, CSIR-Institute of Petroleum
- Mr MK Biswas, Executive Director- Risk Management & Total Quality Management, GAIL India Ltd
- Mr Rajnath Ram, Adviser, NITI Aayog
Guest of Honour H E Mr Kenneth Félix Haczynski da Nóbrega, Ambassador, Embassy of Brazil, New Delhi expressed: “Cooperation on bioenergy and biofuels has become one of the pillars of our bilateral relations with India. It determines the combination of economic, technological and geopolitical resonance that underlines cooperation between both parties. We are focused on boosting energy security, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and increasing the feedstock from the agricultural sector. Both countries are opening new frontiers for sustainable fuels such as hydrogen, sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), ethanol blending, scaling up of biodiesel and biogas plants. This move is clearly dependent on active support from the agriculture sector.”
Over two days, the conference will feature intriguing technical presentations, panel discussions and leadership dialogues, focusing on a range of crucial topics like:
- Challenges, risks & plausible mitigation actions in the alternate fuel ecosystem (CNG- LNG, ethanol, hydrogen, CBG, SAF)
- Policy, standards and regulatory frameworks needed for scale-up of alternative fuels
- Sustainable fuel infrastructure - CGD network expansion - investment plans
- Advanced hydrogen cylinder technologies for safe & scalable mobility
- Real-time emissions tracking and reporting using smart sensors
- Leak detection and gas safety management
The event is supported by leading institutions including the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), NITI Aayog, Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), National Rural Infrastructure Development Agency (NRIDA) and reputed industry bodies such as Net-zero Energy Transition Association (NETRA), Association of State Road Transport Undertaking (ASRTU) and the Natural Gas Society. Additionally, Nomura Research Institute has joined the summit as a strategic consulting partner.
