LNG India Summit 2025 opens today in New Delhi

24 Sep 2025

New Delhi, 24th September 2025: Dedicated to its pivotal theme – "Unleashing LNG Growth Drivers: Open Policy | Infrastructure | CGDs | Transport | Industrial Sectors" the 9th edition of LNG India Summit has opened its doors today at Shangri-La Eros Hotel in New Delhi with Chief Guest Dr. Montek Singh Ahluwalia highlighting how LNG can serve as a strategic bridge fuel driving India’s sustainable growth and energy diversification

The two-day summit organised by Messe Frankfurt Trade fairs India Pvt Ltd, successfully engaged in discussing the pivotal elements accelerating LNG adoption across India, focusing on its role as a cleaner fuel for the future. The government aims to increase the share of natural gas in India’s energy mix to 15% by 2030, up from the current 6%. India is focusing on expanding LNG import capabilities, developing robust storage solutions and optimising pipeline networks and logistical pathways to ensure seamless supply across the nation. Hitherto, key terminals, such as Dahej, Hazira, Kochi, Ennore, Dhamra and the new Chhara LNG Terminal, support this goal, along with developing small-scale LNG (ssLNG) projects to provide gas to areas beyond the pipeline reach.

Positioned as a ‘bridge fuel,’ LNG plays a dynamic role in the country’s energy needs to achieve decarbonisation by replacing coal and enabling India’s transition to renewable energy with very low emissions. The summit has set the stage for two days of strategic dialogue on the future of energy and sustainable mobility.

The distinguished dignitaries who graced the inauguration ceremony from the government and private sectors included:

In his inaugural address, Dr. Ahluwalia underlined the crucial need for rationalisation of energy prices to ensure the sustainable growth of India’s LNG sector. Speaking from an economist’s perspective, he emphasized that energy prices must ultimately be tenable and realistic In the absence of a carbon tax to discourage coal usage, he suggested flexibility measures such as variable pricing of power aligned with the intermittency of renewable energy production, to encourage a cleaner energy mix.

Over two days, the conference will feature intriguing technical presentations, panel discussions and leadership dialogues, focusing on a range of crucial topics like:

  • LNG: Powering India’s Sustainable Future – Global Trends, Imports Scenario and Growth Drivers
